Technical Product Specialist @ Hnry

Wellington, New Zealand
Permanent, full-time
Hnry takes the hassle out of being self-employed by taking care of all the financial admin – everything from Invoicing and Payments through to Expenses and Taxes. We’re automating traditionally labour-intensive and stressful tasks, delivering great experiences and online tools for our users, and making their lives easier.
We’re looking for a Technical Product Specialist to join our Platform team. This role sits at the intersection of product, engineering, and business operations, ensuring that our core technical infrastructure evolves to meet both day-to-day needs and strategic goals.

Responsibilities

Act as an internal subject matter expert (SME) for key areas of our platform and technical infrastructure, understanding the “why” behind technical decisions and being the go-to person for this knowledge.
Work closely with platform engineers and product managers to understand, manage, and prioritise technical backlogs – balancing strategic initiatives with essential day-to-day infrastructure upkeep.
Partner with stakeholders across the business to capture requirements, facilitate prioritisation discussions, and translate business needs into actionable technical tasks.
Contribute to planning and delivery within our Platform squad, ensuring that technical improvements make measurable contributions to stability, scalability, and business outcomes.
Monitor, measure, and report on the effectiveness and impact of technical changes over time, ensuring continuous improvement.
Produce clear, right-sized documentation of key decisions, dependencies, and technical context to support ongoing platform development.
Analyse data, trends, and system insights to inform prioritisation and guide technical decision-making.
Champion agile, iterative delivery practices – advocating for shipping the smallest increments of measurable value and learning quickly from outcomes.
Engage regularly with engineers and business stakeholders to understand technical challenges and opportunities, ensuring alignment across teams.

Be able to demonstrate your ability to collaborate across technical and business teams, communicating complex ideas clearly to different audiences.
Have strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing concise technical documentation.
