Job description

Data Analytics Engineer - Retention & Pet health

At Just Russel, we're not just selling pet food, we're building long-term relationships between pet owners and the health of their animals. As the 6th fastest-growing company in Belgium (Deloitte Fast 50), we've proven we can acquire customers. Now we're focused on something harder and more meaningful: keeping them, and genuinely improving the lives of their pets.

That's where you come in. As our Data Analytics Engineer for Retention & Pet Health, you'll own the data that helps us understand why customers stay, why they leave, and what we can do to make every pet's life a little healthier and longer. Churn models, CLTV, cohort analyses, reactivation campaigns, you'll be the person who makes sure these aren't just buzzwords, but decisions grounded in solid data.

You'll work embedded in a cross-functional tech team alongside product engineers, software engineers and designers, and you'll be the go-to person when it comes to understanding customer behaviour and pet health outcomes.

Job requirements

Own the data that drives retention and pet health decisions:

  • Design and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using dbt Core and BigQuery, built to last, not just to ship.

  • Be the guardian of data quality in your domain: one source of truth, properly documented, always reliable.

  • Be the architecture behind your data landscape. You won't just implement, but help shape how we build.

  • Support A/B testing and experimentation from hypothesis to quantified business impact.

Turn customer and pet data into meaningful action:

  • Deep-dive into subscription and retention data, churn, CLTV, reactivation, payback periods — using cohort analysis, retention curves and attribution modelling.

  • Work with marketing and digital analytics data (GA4, Meta & Google Ads, funnels, CAC vs CLTV) to connect acquisition to long-term value.

  • Collaborate with our data scientist on predictive models: feature design, output validation and monitoring.

  • Build dashboards and reports that people genuinely use, from weekly churn insights to leadership KPI overviews.

  • Be the person who says “here's what the data tells us” in the room where decisions get made.

Your toolbox

  • Data ingestion: dltHub, giving us maximal control of what we ingest.

  • Storage & architecture: BigQuery, with solid understanding of data warehouses, data lakes and medallion/vault patterns.

  • Transformation: dbt Core for modular, well-documented models.

  • Orchestration: Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Workflows).

  • Visualisation: Looker Studio and/or custom dashboard solutions.

  • Analysis: Python for deeper analysis and data pipelines.

Who you are

  • 4–5+ years of experience as a Data Analyst, Data Engineer or Data Analytics Engineer, ideally in e-commerce, subscriptions or digital products.

  • Strong SQL and Python skills, with hands-on experience across a modern data stack.

  • Comfortable with marketing and digital analytics data: GA4, Meta & Google Ads, attribution models, funnels, cohorts, retention, CAC vs CLTV.

  • You understand data architecture and think proactively about cost, efficiency and scalability, not just correctness.

  • You communicate clearly: you can explain a complex model to an engineer and a business insight to a CEO.

  • You take ownership. You don't wait to be asked, you notice what's missing and go fix it.

  • You thrive in a fast-moving environment where priorities shift and ambiguity is part of the job.

  • Master's degree in a quantitative field, or equivalent experience.

  • Fluent in English; Dutch is a strong plus.

What we offer

We're a fast-moving tech team, with cross-functional team. This means real ownership, fast learning and direct impact. No layers of bureaucracy between your work and the decisions it informs.

  • A competitive salary package, aligned with your experience and level of responsibility.

  • Mobility package, tailored to your role and location.

  • Health insurance via Alan.

  • Learning and development opportunities to support your personal and professional growth.

  • Fun team-building, social and sports activities throughout the year.

  • Access to Benefits at Work, with discounts on brands such as Nike, bol.com and IKEA.

  • Employee discount for your pet, because they're part of the family too.

  • A MacBook to do your best work.

  • Home office allowance.

  • Fresh fruit and energising drinks at the office.

If you get excited by the idea of using data to keep pets healthier and customers happier, this role is for you.
