Senior QA Engineer, Engineering (remote)

Full-Time, Remote / Salary, Exempt / Includes Benefits, PTO, Flexible Schedule, Equity

Steno is growing! We’re looking for a Senior QA Engineer to join our winning team, which is revolutionizing the court reporting industry every single day. We’re a diverse team from all over the country (and beyond) and we’re crazy about redefining the boundaries of an outdated industry.

If you are enthusiastic about joining an engineering culture that has a spirit of continuous improvement in all aspects of building products - come join us!

Who are you?

  • You have a proven track record of developing and implementing QA processes, technologies, and developing automated testing
  • You bring a strong sense of ownership to QA, are proactive and highly self-driven, with a strong passion for identifying defects
  • You are comfortable reviewing pull requests to understand code changes, identify risk areas, and design targeted feature and regression tests
  • You have experience with AI tooling, git, and a high-level programming language such as JavaScript, Python, etc (we use TypeScript with Node.js, Selenium/Playwright, and Jest)
  • You’ve got experience with a variety of different testing techniques and when to apply those different techniques
  • You have demonstrated leadership experience mentoring team members and driving quality initiatives
  • You are a self-starter with effective time management in remote working environments and you are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • You love solving problems and collaborating with others to solve those problems
  • You excel at strategic thinking and can contribute to architectural discussions from a testing perspective

On a regular basis, you’ll be:

  • Planning, developing and managing the QA test plans for multiple product lines
  • Leading QA planning sessions for major features and cross-functional initiatives
  • Performing QA browser testing with Playwright and translating those tests into automated scripts for future regression coverage.
  • Identifying quality assurance process bottlenecks and suggesting (and implementing) actions for improvement
  • Investigating product quality in order to make improvements to achieve better customer satisfaction
  • Using a variety of tools to discover and root cause issues, including db queries with SQL, browser dev tools, and web request tools (e.g. Postman)
  • Mentoring QA engineers and conducting code reviews of test scripts
  • Collaborating with development leads and product managers on quality standards and testing strategy
  • Participating in architectural discussions to ensure testability and quality are built into the system design
  • Triaging bug reports and working to reproduce those bugs

You’re gonna crush it if:

  • You have 5+ years of QA experience with demonstrated leadership and strategic planning experience
  • You have experience leading testing efforts for complex, multi-component systems
  • You've become familiar with the downsides of both under-engineering and over-engineering, and developed an appreciation for working pragmatically
  • You seek clarity, and as much simplicity as the underlying problem domain will allow
  • You have a track record of successfully mentoring team members and driving process improvements
  • You can effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • You realize the real project work happens when the last 20% is being completed - the handling of edge cases, errors, and interesting scenarios is where the real magic happens

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary range: $140k-$160k
  • Health, Vision, & Dental Benefits - generous company-sponsored health plans for both employees and dependents, including comprehensive vision & dental
  • Wellness/Mental Health - shared benefits to be used among employees and families
  • Flexible Paid Time Off - allowing employees to find balance in their lives
  • Options of Equity - we know our success is nothing without our team
  • Access to a 401k through Guideline
  • A home office setup and a monthly stipend to offset internet and phone costs
