Your Role

We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer (m/f/d) with strong product thinking and a high bar for craft. Someone who cares deeply about how a product works, feels, and fits together as a whole.

At StudySmarter, design plays a central role in helping learners achieve their educational goals. In this role, you’ll design experiences that feel considered, intentional, and visually confident, while always balancing learner value, business impact, and feasibility.

You’ll work closely with Product Management and Engineering as part of a cross-functional product team and help shape the evolution of our product experience and design language over time.

What you’ll do

  • Own product problems from early exploration through delivery and iteration, with clear responsibility for outcomes

  • Frame problems clearly, define goals, and make design decisions with explicit reasoning and tradeoffs

  • Design high-quality interaction and visual experiences with strong hierarchy, clarity, and attention to detail

  • Balance detail and direction by knowing when to zoom in and when to zoom out to maintain coherence across the product

  • Actively raise the quality and consistency of our visual design, interaction patterns, and overall design language

  • Help shape and evolve our Design System so new work strengthens the product as a whole

  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Engineers, challenging ideas openly and working as one team

  • Support experiments such as A/B tests and use qualitative and quantitative insights to learn and iterate

  • Use tools like Lovable, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar, to prototype and explore ideas efficiently

  • Ensure design intent is well translated into shipped product - taking responsibility for the final user experience, not just the concept

What you need to succeed
  • A strong portfolio showing thoughtful product design and experiences that feel intentional, useful, and visually confident

  • Strong product thinking with a user-centered mindset

  • A high bar for craft, including visual clarity, interaction quality, consistency, and polish

  • A builder mindset: you actively use the newest AI tools to prototype, automate, and bring ideas to life

  • Sound design judgment, with the ability to explain decisions, articulate tradeoffs, and apply design skills where they create real value

  • The ability to zoom in on details while maintaining a clear sense of the overall product experience

  • Experience working with cross-functional product teams

  • Comfort learning from shipped outcomes and using qualitative and quantitative insights to iterate

  • Excellent communication skills in English

We care more about the quality of your work and your design judgment than a specific number of years of experience.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing habit-forming B2C products

  • Background in EdTech or learning-related products

  • Experience working in experimentation-heavy product environments

  • (Micro-)animation skills, ideally with tools like Rive, to enhance interaction clarity and feedback
