Engineering & Product

Hi! 👋 I'm Garib, CTO at WeTravel.

I started this journey with the belief that technology can empower travel organizers everywhere to create unforgettable experiences, and over the years, we’ve grown from an idea into a platform trusted by thousands around the world.

My path has taken me from hands-on coding to building & leading an incredible engineering team, but what keeps me going is the same thing that started it all: solving real problems with talented, curious people.

At WeTravel, we value collaboration, kindness, and the drive to keep learning. If that resonates with you, I’d be excited to welcome you to our team.

About WeTravel:

Think of the most incredible adventures imaginable: trekking to Machu Picchu, cycling through Tuscany, or going on a safari in Kenya. For years, the small businesses and local experts who run these trips have been stuck using messy spreadsheets, countless emails, and complicated payment methods.

WeTravel is changing that. We build the tools that empower any entrepreneur to launch and grow their own travel business. Our platform makes it simple for organizers to create beautiful trip proposals, securely process payments, and manage their customers, so they can focus on what they do best: creating amazing experiences.

This is one of the last great frontiers of travel to come online, and as the category leader, we are at the forefront of this change. Last year alone, our platform was trusted by 8,000 organizers to lead over a million travelers on adventures in 150+ countries. Now, we’re on an exciting journey to grow from powering $1B to $10B in travel experiences per year.

We believe that every trip, when done right, can be a force for good - and we’re building the engine to make more of that possible.

The Role

WeTravel is launching its AI Lab, a fast-moving, experiment-driven team focused on discovering and validating new AI-powered solutions for our customers. As our first AI Engineer in the AI Lab, you will work hand-in-hand with a Product Manager to ideate, prototype, and test Agentic AI workflows that solve high-impact problems for travel organizers and our internal teams.

This role is not about maintaining existing systems, it’s about rapid experimentation, building proof-of-concepts, validating them in the real world, and handing them off to product teams for full-scale rollout.

You’ll be at the forefront of shaping WeTravel’s AI portfolio, working across all business domains, with immediate visibility into the impact of your work.

We know that AI-enabled and Agentic systems can greatly improve the work of our customers - you’ll help us find out what are the most impactful ways we can do that.

What you’ll do:

  • Partner with the AI Lab Product Manager to design, build, and iterate on AI prototypes — from concept to working MVPs.

  • Architect and deliver Agentic AI solutions such as:

    • Fully or partially automated Itinerary builder workflows.

    • AI-powered sales agents for organizers.

    • Automation of the top 3 most time-consuming organizer tasks.

  • Work autonomously to build working prototypes in isolation from the main system, enabling high-speed iteration without blocking core product teams.

  • Run rapid experiments — validating or disproving product hypotheses in days, not weeks.

  • Ensure smooth handover of validated projects to product engineering teams, including documentation, training, and technical guidance.

  • Stay ahead of AI trends, frameworks, and tooling to continuously improve our experimentation velocity.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, designers, and product teams to explore and evaluate AI opportunities across the company.

  • Maintain a “move fast without breaking things” mindset — balancing speed with quality, stability, and compliance.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Delivering a steady cadence of AI experiments per quarter (launched, validated, or disproven).

  • Successful handover of proven AI prototypes to product teams.

  • Building solutions that measurably save time, increase efficiency, or improve customer experience.

How we work

  • We’re focused on the impact. We don’t subscribe to any one framework or execution ideology, and we adapt based on what’s impactful.

  • We’re using the latest hardware and constantly on the look out for better tools & ways to work

  • AI Stack: You’ll play a role in building our standard stack for AI-enabled & Agentic applications.

  • Production Stack: We’re using React/ReactNative/TypeScript + Ruby on Rails and Python Microservices on Kubernetes. We also use and love MongoDB, MySQL, Postgres, Snowflake.

You should apply if you have:

Experience & Execution

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience building production systems.

  • Strong engineering skills and proven experience in GenAI / LLM applications (i.e. built and launched LLM-enabled products to customers).

  • Demonstrated ability to design, build, and ship working prototypes independently.

  • Proven track record of rapid iteration and experimentation.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with LLM providers and SDKs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta).

  • Experience with AI orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, etc.) or custom-built solutions.

  • Ability to design and implement RAG pipelines end-to-end (ingestion, embeddings, vector stores, search, evaluation).

  • Knowledge of performance and cost optimization for AI workloads.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), containerization, and CI/CD.

Soft Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Cross-functional collaboration experience.

  • Ability to mentor and train others on AI concepts.

Nice to Have

  • Understanding of model training, fine-tuning, and when to apply different approaches.

  • Prior work on agentic AI systems.

  • Experience with small language models (SLMs) for latency-sensitive workloads.
