| JOB DESCRIPTION Title: Senior Accountant Department Code & Name: 211-Finance-Club FLSA Status: Exempt Location: Remote (U.S.-based) with occasional travel for site visits and business-related events About LOVB (League One Volleyball): League One Volleyball (LOVB) is reimagining women's sports. Launched in 2019, our company is a mission-led sports performance, training and media enterprise that will change the game of volleyball in the USA and empower new generations of female athletes.
It is a groundbreaking time for volleyball in the US with our historic triple Olympic Gold medals in Women's Indoor, Beach and Sitting Volleyball. Volleyball is already the #1 most played girls' youth sport. There are 38M current and former players today. Of major sports, it's the only one that is women-first (~90% of players are female). But the volleyball market has been almost entirely missed by traditional sports investors, brands, and media.
LOVB is capturing this opportunity by creating a strong club business, and from that built-in audience and fandom, is creating the best Pro League in the world and a digital ecosystem that will connect all aspects of LOVB. This community-up approach will drive participation and fandom, while enabling greater empowerment for girls and young women living this amazing sport. In this role, you will join a mission-driven, roll-up-your-sleeves team of innovators and builders who have come together to change the paradigm of professional volleyball and women’s sports. Job Summary: Providing mentorship to the accounting team, collaborating with upper management on complex accounting matters, internal controls and providing best practice techniques. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Oversight of Daily Operations: ● Complete ownership of various club books across all GL accounts in accordance with US GAAP. ● Review, analyze, implement and maintain the organization's accounting operation; establish, develop, and/or recommend objectives, policies, and procedures to management to identify risks and as part of audit readiness.
Monthly Closing: ● Timely month-end closing of the GL and preparation of all related reports and reconciliations, including operational accounting - GL, AP, fixed assets, payroll accruals, intercompany accounting, and consolidation
Innovation and Efficiency: ● Build efficiencies through maximizing systems automated processes and integrations. ● Research, analyze, and interpret complex technical accounting issues and new accounting standards ● Support annual audits performed by external auditors ● Identify opportunities for process improvements to scale and automate manual procedures ● Assist management in completing special projects and analyses on an ad-hoc basis
● Improve and enhance best practice processes, procedures and internal controls. Promoting operational efficiency and compliance ● Respond to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders ● Participate in various ad hoc projects and analysis Required Skills/Abilities: ● Internal controls ● Inter company reconciliations ● GL account reconciliations and work papers ● Best practice processes and procedures ● Process and review various journal entries ● Ad hoc financial reporting ● Knowledge of US GAAP ● Ability to maintain a good balance between strategy and action, as this role is expected to contribute to tactical executions when necessary ● Enjoys and thrives working in a busy and dynamic environment ● Ability to think on feet and handle competing priorities ● Solutions orientated knowing when to escalate potential issues and challenges ● A collaborator with excellent communication skills ● Ability to work with various departments; FP&A, AP, Payroll, Club Operations ● A clear and friendly communication style with strong listening skills, both written and verbal ● Must be a positive, proactive, think outside the box, and organized team player ● A mind for detail—you can tell when something’s off ● Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as ability to collaborate closely with a team that is distributed remotely ● Ability to handle sensitive information with complete confidentiality ● Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize appropriately and handle multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal guidance ● High degree of flexibility and ready to learn as we are a startup, so things are always evolving. You’re not just capable of, but excited about learning new systems and skills, and improving existing systems Preferred Requirements: ● Inventory accounting ● Tax compliance ● Payroll accounting ● NetSuite experience Education and Experience: ● 5+ years experience in staff accounting role ● Bachelor’s in Accounting ● Accounting experience in a start-up environment(preferred) Work Environment & Physical Requirements (Remote): ● Ability to operate a computer and use a keyboard, mouse, and video conferencing tools. ● Ability to clearly communicate via video, phone, and written channels. ● Occasional travel may be required for site visits and events.
